Pet Stains?

What is really on your carpets?

One recent article in Men's Health Magazine spoke of a study that showed there are about 200,000 bacteria per square inch of carpet. It stated the average person sheds around 1 million skin cells an hour. That and food particles, pet dander, pollen, and any other contaminants provide a breeding ground for bacteria colonies. Their solution was to have carpets professionally cleaned at least once or twice a year. Find out more

Benefits of Clean Carpet:

Improve the Indoor Air Quality of your home

There are many benefits of having carpet installed in your home. Carpet is the biggest filter in your house. If you suffer from Asthma, allergies, sinus infections, or any other respiratory problems having carpets can help. In homes where there are only hard flooring, contaminants are kicked up by every step and recirculated back into the air. Those contaminants are breathed in when inhaling. Carpet traps pollutants such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and other contaminants that can cause the breathing issues. However, carpet can become saturated with these contaminants if they are not vacuumed often and professionally cleaned at least once or twice a year. Vacuuming with a HEPA filter well can remove a big portion of these contaminants and prolong the life of your carpet, but it can not penetrate the surface. Deep cleaning is the only way to remove the rest of the contaminants.

It is important to remove pet stains immediately after they happen. Urine and feces not only create a cess pool of germs, they can also permanently ruin your carpet. As mentioned earlier, bacteria colonies thrive on dirty floors. Leaving pet stains can give bacteria an endless food source causing it to spread. The odor from the stains comes from the gases and amino acids released from the bacteria breaking down the urine. There are also salts and minerals in the urine. This combined with bacteria break down cause the odor. In fact, urine can also oxidize the carpet fibers and change the pH Level possibly resulting in permanent discoloration if not removed immediately. It can change the dye structures in the carpet if left over an extended period of time. The pH Level of the urine actually increases when the urine stain dries. The pet stains can soak into the mat which could require multiple cleanings for the stain to be completely removed.
